SIROCCO BAY lost 2 lengths. ZERMATT lost 1 length. SPACEWAY and SONG JET bumped at the start. PRONGHORN was hanging in from the 400m. In view of the performance from RACE ROCKET, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. When questioned, Jockey van der Merwe, the rider of SIROCCO BAY, told the Stewards that this gelding had been slow away and despite being ridden forward was unable to muster speed and he had found himself placed further back than intended. Jockey Sampson, the rider of MR LATINO, appeared before the Board and was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount to the finish where circumstances permit. SONG JET was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. RACE ROCKET raced equipped with alumite shoes in front, steel behind. Vet: SONG JET - abnormal respiratory noise. RACE ROCKET - not striding out right front; speedy cut left hind. ZERMATT - overreach right front. Scratched: AKITAKATA and LIMITED EDITION - insufficient recovery time.
