WINTER was slow into stride. MOONLIT VENICE raced tightly on the inside of JUMPSTART between the 150m and the 100m, which was hanging in and rolled in slightly. This led to MOONLIT VENICE being brushed approaching the 100m. A member of the Stipendiary Board called a race review into this incident which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Assistant Trainer Azzie on behalf of the 2nd placed horse, MOONLIT VENICE, against the winner, JUMPSTART, on the grounds of intimidation and interference in the closing stages. The Objection Board, after giving regard to the evidence put forward by both parties and reviewing the patrol films of the incident complained of, was of the opinion that it could not be comfortably accepted that MOONLIT VENICE would have finished ahead of JUMPSTART had this incident not occurred. Therefore the Board overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges result to stand. Assistant Trainer Azzie's deposit was refunded. Jockey Strydom appeared before the Board and was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that JUMPSTART was hanging inwards, he is expected to take stronger measures in future to keep his mounts on a straight course. Apprentice Storey, the rider of MRS HANCOCK, reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running. Trainer Maroun appeared before the Board and was interviewed regarding the early departure from the parade ring of NKOMO. He told the Stewards that this filly is very temperamental and usually leaves the parade ring before the rest of the field. Mr Maroun was advised that his explanation would be noted, however, the next time this filly races, he needs to ensure that NKOMO does not leave the parade ring so far in advance of the rest of the field or the Stewards may consider suspending the filly for intractability. JUMPSTART was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: GYPSEY MYTH - coughing. MRS HANCOCK - examined post race, no significant findings. MOONLIT VENICE - abrasion left hip from pens.
