The horses arrived at the start late. FIRE ENGINE was fractious in the stalls, jumped awkwardly outwards. Trainer Hodgson will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before its next engagement. TOUGHNUTTOCRACK was fractious, reared, and then flyjumped leaving the stalls losing two lengths. Trainer Kruyer will be advised that this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn, and is to be passed on a raceday on two separate occasions with company. Jockey Behr reported that ICE COOL did not stride out freely in the latter stages. The Board reviewed the start of this race regarding TOUGHNUTTOCRACK in stall gate 4. After reviewing the patrol films from various angles the Board noted that this gelding reared prior to the start and was therefore declared a non runner. AIR CHIEF MARSHALL clipped the heels of EXCLUSIVE KNIGHT, which shifted in shortly after the start, and stumbled badly almost dislodging Jockey van Niekerk. Apprentice Carstens, the rider of EXCLUSIVE KNIGHT, was charged with a contravention, in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to AIR CHIEF MARSHAL shortly after the start. Apprentice Carsten signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days. NEBRA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. CHIEF PILOT raced fitted with a tongue tie. The Club's Medical Officer stood down Jockey Fayd'Herbe for the remainder of the day on medical grounds. Vet: ICE COOL - returned striding short. NEBRA - returned bleeding in the mouth. Scratched: FORTE DE OURO - off feed. KNIGHTED - tendonitis. SHOUT - changed stables. TOUGHNUTTOCRACK - declared a non runner.
