Following heavy overnight rain, the racemeeting that was originally scheduled to take place at Turffontein Inside Track was moved to the Vaal Turf Inside Track. This decision was made after considering the weather forecast which predicted more favourable weather at the Vaal. The race times remain the same but the distances for Races 8, 9 and 10 were amended from 1450m to 1400m. The start of this race was delayed slightly due to the draw numbers having to be corrected and Riders Appie and Wrogemann having to swop colours at the start. RED JOHN reared in the stalls. Trainer Lerena was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. KING GERARD jumped outwards leaving the stalls and lost three lengths. DUBLIN DEADLY lost two lengths. WOTTAHOTTIE was hanging out in the closing stages. DONTBEAMOEGOE raced tightly between EUROZONE and CAPTAIN QUAKER at the 1100m. KING GERARD raced green. DONTBEAMOEGOE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DONTBEAMOEGOE compared to its previous race on the 4th of Nov 2014 at the Vaal Racecourse over 1400m, Trainer Goosen told the Stewards that this gelding has a tendency to lose ground at the start, over-race in the early stages and tire in the closing stages of its races. He further told the Stewards that DONTBEAMOEGOE had jumped on terms today and Jockey Appie had been able to obtain cover which had resulted in the gelding being able to sustain a strong finish. He added that in his opinion this was a weak field. The Board noted Mr Goosen's explanation and drew his attention to the Rules pertaining to inconsistent form and advised him that he needs to try and employ similar tactics in future. The future performances of this gelding will be monitored. TARENTUM raced with a tongue tie (declared 22 December 2014 at 20H44). TARENTUM cast a hind shoe which the farrier was unable to refit, as a result the Farrier removed the other hind shoe and TARENTUM raced unshod behind. Vet: CAUGHT IN CORK - abnormal respiratory noise.
