PELICAN BAY lost two lengths. WAQAAS (AUS) lost one length. Shortly before the start, WAQAAS (AUS) retreated and broke the back gate open. This was followed by the gelding taking one step backwards and then walking forwards and within its respective starting stall when the start was effected. The Stipendiary Board called a race review into this incident, and after carefully reviewing the patrol film from various angles, was satisfied that if anything WAQAAS (AUS) had been disadvantaged by his actions and was in the starting stall when the start was effected. As a result, WAQAAS (AUS) was declared to be a runner. An investigation has been opened to establish why the Starter effected the start when the Assistant Starter had not raised the flag behind the stalls. Jockey Steyn reported that he felt something amiss with SPANISH TUNE in running. Apprentice Schwarz reported that RYDER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. WAQAAS (AUS) was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: SPANISH TUNE - examined post-race, nothing obvious detected. REVELATION and RYDER - abnormal respiratory noise. Scratched: STREAKING STAR - injured left front.
