UNBROKEN lost two lengths. KING GERARD and TIGER ON THE PROWL were slow into stride. In view of the performance of TOP SHOT, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. Assistant Trainer Hughes was requested to report back to the Board on the condition of this colt on its return to the stables. FORT NAVIDAD was switched out to continue its run leaving the 100m. In the concluding stages CAPUCHE was carried outwards by FORT NAVIDAD which was steadied outwards to avoid the heels of SPRING STEEL which shifted out away from the crop. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board regarding this incident which was followed by him lodging an Objection on behalf of FORT NAVIDAD, placed third, against the 2nd placed horse, SPRING STEEL, on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Objection Board, after taking evidence from the connections of all the parties and that of the Stipendiary Steward who lodged the objection, was of the opinion that given that this incident had occurred in close proximity to the finish line and that the distance between these two horses was half a length, could not be comfortably satisfied that FORT NAVIDAD would have finished ahead of SPRING STEEL had this incident not occurred, and therefore overruled the Objection. The Judges result stands. The Board have adjourned to consider certain remarks made during this objection. An Inquiry will be held into Jockey van der Merwe's riding in the closing stages. OXFORD UNION was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: TOPSHOT - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. KING GERARD - cut into, speedy cut right front and coughing. Scratched: CONFIDENTIAL AGENT - abnormal blood count. TARENTUM - insufficient recovery time.
