The saddle on MATIES WILDEKAT, which was restless in the stalls, slipped back inside the starting stalls and the filly had to be taken out, resaddled and was reloaded, causing a delay. Trainer Bass will be advised to have this filly re-schooled before her next engagement. NIGHT OF STARS was fractious in the stalls, broke through the front gate, dislodged the rider, was immediately caught, - returned to the start and reloaded, causing a delay. Trainer Marshall will be advised to have this filly re-schooled before her next engagement. Jockey Byleveld reported that he felt something amiss with NIGHT OF STARS in running. COTTON CANDY rolled inwards leaving the 350m and made contact with the hind quarters of PERPETUA, which resulted in both horses becoming momentarily unbalanced. In view of the performance from COTTON CANDY, which tired quickly in the latter stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the filly and submit a report. BALKAN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: NIGHT OF STARS - returned bleeding from the mouth, wound on upper jaw. COTTON CANDY - not striding out in front. Scratched: MONEY SURGER - off feed. SPANISH DAWN - under suspension.
