After consultation with the Racecourse Track Manager, the going was changed from Good to Soft after 13.5mm of rain had fallen in a relatively short space of time. The start of this Race was slightly delayed due to the late arrival of the ambulance at the start. This Race was run in torrential rain with poor visibility. EARL OF DERBY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. After the running of Race 2 torrential rain continued to fall unabated for over an hour and with an electrical storm in close proximity to the racecourse, it was decided to postpone the running of Race 3 to see if the weather would clear. After some time a track inspection was carried out by two Stipendiary Stewards, an NHA Veterinary Surgeon, Race Meeting Representative, two Jockeys and a Trainer. On their return to the boardroom the Jockey and Trainer representatives lodged a protest against the continuation of the race meeting on the grounds that the track was waterlogged and there being continual heavy rain with lightning. After taking the evidence from the various parties, it was the unanimous decision of the panel to abandon the remainder of the race meeting. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that participated raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure.
