PRICELESS GEM and NIGHT LOCK were slow into stride. BORN TO RULE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. BORN TO RULE shifted inwards slightly at approximately the 1700 metre mark, resulting in DISCOURSE and ON MY WITS ALONE becoming momentarily cramped for galloping room. Apprentice Marwing, the rider of BORN TO RULE, appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in races. Due to the performance of PIMPERNEL (NZ), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Apprentice Carstens reported that MISS TEE was not striding out freely in running. HAMELIN BAY stumbled leaving the stalls. Apprentice Mxothwa signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he misused his crop by striking ON MY WITS ALONE more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages. MISS TEE raced fitted with alumites both fore and unshod behind. Vet: PIMPERNEL (NZ) - nothing obvious detected. MISS TEE - not striding out right hind and coughing. Scratched: FIRST FLIGHT - sold to Mauritius.
