Jockey Mansour (undergoing surgical procedure) and Jockey Sturgeon (family responsibility) did not ride at today's race meeting. They were replaced on their mounts. BREAKOFNIGHT was slow, losing 1 length. FINAL CENT was slow into stride. Leaving the 100m BUDDY'S FALCON had to steady for a number of strides when tightened for galloping room on the inside of CARELESS WHISPER, which rolled inwards from JOE ANN (*M Thackeray), which was hanging in, in the closing stages. CROWN BEARER was hanging in throughout. DEFINING LOOKS was hanging in from the 300m. In view of the performance from FINAL CENT, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Apprentice Munger, the rider of CARELESS WHISPER, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film of the race and reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race. CORAL KEY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JOE ANN raced without a tongue tie. FINAL CENT raced in Club Colours with the Stewards permission. Vet: CROWN BEARER - abnormal respiratory noise. ROYAL WHISTLE - coughing. SEEKING SEATTLE - not striding out left front. FINAL CENT - examined post race, no significant findings. Scratched: ALICE - suspected virus. After the running of Race 1 a Jockey delegation lodged a protest against the condition of the sand track and voiced concerns that it was unsafe to continue racing on the Sand surface due to the inconsistent going that prevailed after overnight rain. A Panel was formed and after a track inspection had been carried out, it was decided that the track may dry out sufficiently after an hour. At 13:30 another track inspection was carried out and the Panel reconvened and it was decided that the track had not dried sufficiently to ensure safety to both horse and rider and the remainder of the meeting was changed to the Turf outside track. All Trainers and their Representatives were afforded the opportunity to withdraw their runners and race times amended accordingly. The distances of races 3, 4 and 5 were changed to 1400m from 1450m. An inquiry will be opened into the circumstances that led to this decision being made.
