QUID RIDES was squeezed out shortly after the start. MARCOBOMBA and COLONEL ROCKJAW lost one length. WALL OF ICE jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. Jockey Lerena reported that SUPER MARIUS did not stride out freely in running and he did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. Jockey Mansour reported that WARGAMES made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. SCAR TISSUE was hanging out from the 400m. FINCHATTON was bumped at the 350m by RESPECTABLE RULER, which rolled out. When questioned regarding his riding of QUID RIDES, Jockey Sturgeon told the Stewards that this gelding was racing over a shorter distance today and that after being squeezed out at the start, the gelding had failed to muster speed in the early and middle stages and had lost ground to the field. He stated that he had been reluctant to ask the gelding for an effort too early as he was concerned that it might not finish the race off strongly. He further stated that as it turned out when he did ask QUID RIDES for an effort from the 500m, it had responded and had managed to close off strongly. His explanation was noted. FINCHATTON was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: WARGAMES - no respiratory noise detected post race. JULIO - mouth injury. SUPER MARIUS - not striding out left front. Scratched: MORDAUNT MAGIC - coughing.
