STAR CHOICE (S Moodley) and CAPRICCIO (*J Jacobs) lost one length, respectively. SUPPER AT SIX (A Mgudlwa) was stubborn to load and lost one length. Trainer D Howells was advised to re-school this filly. STRAWBERRYPOPTART (*K Sakayi) shifted out away from the crop from the 200m. Jockey S Moodley reported that STAR CHOICE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey D Dillon reported that he felt something amiss with ALGARVE in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. In view of the performance of ZAMA ZAMA (A Marcus), (distance 4.35 lengths, 13/4 betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Jockey E Ngwane signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse EXCESSIVE GRACE more than 12 times in entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey E Ngwane the Board considered the number of times (20) Jockey E Ngwane struck the horse EXCESSIVE GRACE, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey E Ngwane used his crop and his record in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R3500 was imposed. Additionally, Jockey E Ngwane was advised that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar contravention in the near future, a more severe penalty will be issued. ALABAMA SLIDE (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Forster acting on behalf of Trainer A Nel was advised.
