SMART MART was stubborn loading, resulting in a delay to the start of this race. The starting stalls certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn until recertified tractable on a race day with a companion. Assistant Trainer de Kock advised. MASTER ENTERTAINER was stubborn loading. Assistant Trainer Stegmann was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement, ETERNITY and DIE KAT (AUS) lost 2 lengths. THE BARBADIAN lost 3 lengths. When questioned regarding his riding of ETERNITY, Jockey Herholdt told the Stewards that this gelding had been drawn wide and had jumped slow and as this gelding runs from a rearward position, his instructions were to allow ETERNITY the luxury of dictating his own pace in the early and middle stages so that he could close the race off strongly. He added that he had complied with the instructions and may have been positioned further back than intended due to the strong pace that was set by the leaders in the early and middle stages. Upon entering the straight ETERNITY had changed stride and had managed to run on resolutely to the finish. Jockey Herholdt's explanation was noted. SMART MART was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: KING'S JOY - abnormal respiratory noise. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure.
