Before the start of the Race meeting a Jockey delegation expressed their concerns regarding the sand track, which was found to be waterlogged following early morning rain. It was decided that as it was not possible to race as scheduled on the Sand track, that the race meeting be switched to the Turf track. Due to the rail, which divided the inside and outside turf track, being removed due to the planned installation of a new movable rail next week, the entire turf track was utilised. However, the stalls were positioned on the outside of the track as the riders were requested to keep to the outside half of the track, if possible. This request was made due to the discolouration of the middle part of the course, which had to be repaired after the removal of the rail. The middle part of the course was ruled to eliminate any concerns regarding possible uneven ground. All trainers or their representatives were given the option to scratch their runners due to the change of surface, and the distances of Races 8 and 9 were changed to 1400m from 1450m. RACE 1: RED LUNAR and ROMIELLA lost 1 length. Jockey Zechner reported that RED LUNAR did not stride out freely in running. Jockey Chambers reported that PIE IN THE SKY did not stride out freely in running and as a result he did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. OMOROSE ANGEL was hanging in throughout. Apprentice van Staden, the rider of this filly, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film of the race and advised to take the necessary measures to keep his mounts on a straight course in future. OUTA MY WAY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. BEAUTIFUL SHAY is a grey, not bay as carded. Vet: PIE IN THE SKY - lame left front. RED LUNAR - not striding out left front. SILKY FLYER - blowing heavily post race. Scratched: NARMADA - lame left front. TONY THE REBEL - coughing.
