THE ROYAL RUMBA pulled its right front shoe en route to the start, which was attended to by the Course Farrier, causing a slight delay to the start of this race. THE ROYAL RUMBA and KING'S JOY lost 1 length. In view of the performance from NERO and TIP A CHAMPION, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. Apprentice Marwing, the rider of THE ROYAL RUMBA, and Jockey Naude, the rider of SILLY MID-ON, reported that their respective mounts took no interest in running. Jockey Danielson reported that ESTANCIA did not stride out freely in running. THE ROYAL RUMBA, FACEBOOK and ROMAN RIDGE were crowded for galloping room at the start between NERO, which jumped inwards, and TIP A CHAMPION, which jumped outwards. This led to TIP A CHAMPION being unbalanced when it made contact with FACEBOOK. Following this incident NERO and FACEBOOK were positioned close to the area where the running rail, which would divide the inside and outside tracks, would be placed. Jockey Lerena, the rider of NERO, and Jockey van Rensburg, the rider of FACEBOOK, then directed their mounts towards the inside running rail, where they remained until the end of the race. Jockey Lerena, the rider of NERO, and Jockey van Rensburg, the rider of FACEBOOK, told the Stewards that as they had arrived late on course they had been unaware of the discussions before the start of the race meeting and gave the assurance that whenever possible they would keep their mounts to the outside part of the track. The Stewards accepted their explanation. ETERNITY was hanging in, in the closing stages. LIMBO had to steady at the 450m when tightened for galloping room on the outside of MASTER ENTERTAINER, which rolled outwards. MOVE LIKE JAGGER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: THE ROYAL RUMBA and NERO - examined post race, no significant findings. ETERNITY - abnormal respiratory noise; respiratory distress. ESTANCIA - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. TIP A CHAMPION and SILLY MID-ON - not striding out right front. Scratched: HAWKSWORTH, AHLAAM (ARG) and MASNOON (AUS) - change of surface.
