DEVON GOLD was slow into stride. RACING FOR FUN lost 2 lengths. THESEUS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. CAPTAIN GREAT jumped outwards awkwardly making contact with KRACKERJACK ACE and losing 2 lengths. KRACKERJACK ACE and ALBERT made contact shortly after the start. CAPTAIN GREAT raced green, hanging out over the final 500 metres. THESEUS was hanging in throughout. In view of the performances of ALBERT and CAPTAIN GREAT, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. ALBERT returned post race having cast the right fore shoe. Jockey Mgudlwa reported that he felt something amiss with KRACKERJACK ACE and as a result did not preserve with his ride in the latter stages. Jockey de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that, as the rider of THESEUS, he failed to ensure that when riding in this race over a straight course that he kept straight, parallel to the running rail and relative to his drawn position until a point not less than 200 metres from the start as indicated by the marker. KRACKERJACK ACE raced fitted with steels. Vet: ALBERT, KRACKERJACK ACE and CAPTAIN GREAT - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: PANZA - nasal discharge. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure. Several Jockeys were selected for the taking of breathalyser tests and urine samples for analysis.
