ROYAL KNOCKOUT cast the right fore shoe on the way to the start, which the farrier replaced, causing a delay. SPEED MERCHANT jumped awkwardly, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. LANE FROST, which over-raced in the early stages, became awkwardly placed on the heels of WHAT'S NEWS approaching the 1000m and was forced to shift outwards, brushing FLYING ALLY on a number of occasions. SHEPHERDS PURSE, which was hanging out, shifted outwards in the concluding stages, which resulted in ROYAL KNOCKOUT becoming tightened for galloping room and eased on the line. Jockey Wright was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline C on the use of the crop, in that he struck SUIT OF LIGHTS more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages. Jockey Wright signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. Jockey Goomany was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline C on the use of the crop, in that he struck SHEPHERDS PURSE more than three times on consecutive strides in the latter stages.
