EASTERN FRONT was slow into stride. HAPPY LION stood awkwardly and was restless in the stalls. The Starter reported a technical problem with the front gate of starting stall 5 and as a result left this gate vacant, and moved the horses up one position. Stall gate 5 was not used for the remainder of the race meeting. CAPTIAN BAGG faltered at the 800m. Jockey Behr reported that he felt something amiss with CAPTAIN BAGG and did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. CAPTAIN BAGG took another awkward stride at the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. Trainer Sands was requested to report to the Stewards on the colt's condition once it returned to the stables. Jockey Schlechter reported that he felt something amiss with HAPPY LION in running. TRIPLE BLUFF was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: CAPTAIN BAGG - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. HAPPY LION - returned speedy cut on the right hind.
