FLYING WELSHMAN was restless in the stalls. Trainer Francis was advised to re-school this gelding prior to its next engagement. VALIANCE SAMARITAN stood, losing five lengths. The Starting Stall Certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn until recertified tractable. BARON OF DUBROVNIK stumbled shortly after the start. FIRST SIGN jumped awkwardly. Apprentice Murray, THE RIDER OF MORDAUNT MAGIC, and Jockey Wrogemann, the rider of COUNT SAMUEL, reported that they felt something amiss with their mounts in running. Jockey Danielson reported that FLYING WELSHMAN was coughing. PRONGHORN was hanging in, in the closing stages. Jockey Lerena reported that GAISCE GOLD was blowing heavily. Assistant Trainer Stegmann was requested to report back on the condition of this colt on return to stables. RETURN TO THE SUN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MORDAUNT MAGIC and FLYING WELSHMAN raced without a tongue tie. Vet: GRANTCHESTER - examined post race, no significant findings. MORDAUNT MAGIC - coughing and not striding out right front. COUNT SAMUEL - lame right front. Indefinite suspension for a veterinary report. GAISCE GOLD - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Scratched: COMMENTATOR - coughing. SUMMER CONNECTION - lame left front. After the running of Race 2, a delegation of Jockeys and the Course Veterinary Surgeon expressed their concerns regarding the sand track which was reported to be inconsistent. A panel comprising Jockeys, Stipendiary Stewards, the Course Veterinary Surgeon, the Track Manager and the Phumelela Racemeeting Manager carried out a track inspection. Thereafter the Jockeys lodged a protest into the condition of the track being inconsistent and unsafe for racing. A panel was formed and after hearing the evidence of all concerned, the panel was of the unanimous opinion that the track was inconsistent and posed a danger to both horse and rider and it was decided that Races 3 - 8 should be abandoned. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked and their identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
