PROVE A POINT dislodged Jockey Appie en-route to the start and cantered back to the unsaddling area. This gelding was inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race, resulting in a delay to the start of this race. TERRIBLE GULCH (ARG) was slow, losing one length. IMPERIAL KING was slow, losing three lengths. Whilst racing in close quarters Jockey Sampson, the rider of SIR NEWTON, had his crop accidentally struck from his hand by Jockey Appie, the rider of PROVE A POINT, shortly before the finish line. Apprentice Thackeray reported that SAN VICENZO made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. Jockey Pretorius reported that he felt something amiss with IMPERIAL KING in running. In view of the performances of MESSENGER JOHN and TIGER WOULD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. PROVE A POINT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. COLOURS OF LOVE raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: SAN VICENZO - abnormal respiratory noise and not striding out right front. IMPERIAL KING - not striding out left front. MESSENGER JOHN - not striding out right front. TIGER WOULD - no significant findings. Scratched: SPANISH TIGER - lame both front.
