ROXY LADY was stubborn loading. OCULUS lost 1 length. FIDELIO and TZITZIKAMA FIRE were awkwardly placed shortly after the start between FIRST SIGN and AYRTON, which jumped inwards. ROXY LADY was hanging in from the 500m. JAHUNDA had to switch out at the 150m to continue its run. LA TASCA and GOLD COMET were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. JAHUNDA raced equipped with a tongue tie. Vet: COLD SHOT - blood from right front hoof from underneath silicon pad. Scratched: ASHANTEE - cast in box. After the running of Race 2 a panel of Jockeys raised safety concerns regarding the exposed goose-neck uprights on the inside or the present running rail between the 1400m and the 1000m. During the investigation of this matter it was uncovered that at the Vaal Sand Race meeting of 18 June 2015 the Jockeys had raised these safety concerns regarding the exposed goose-neck uprights with the requisite Phumelela Officials, however, the issue had not been resolved for today's race meeting. A panel comprising of Jockeys, Trainers, Officials and the Phumelela race day duty and track managers inspected the area complained of and it was agreed that a risk of injury did exist in the event of a catastrophic injury which resulted in a horse breaking through the present inside running rail. After having regard to all statements and evidence led by the members of the panel, it was resolved that in the best interests of racing the jockeys would race wide around the bend and give each other as much space/room as possible. Jockeys were given the option to stand down in the event that they considered the risk associated with riding too great. Phumelela have given an undertaking that they will source additional aluminium running rails before the next sand race meeting to ensure the safety of both horse and rider. The off times of Races 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were rescheduled.
