During the loading process DUTCH HARBOR got its right hind leg wedged in the rear starting gate after proving to be restless. The starting stall staff and Veterinary Surgeon were able to extricate this colt's leg, however, during this process DUTCH HARBOR managed to break open the front gate and bolt. DUTCH HARBOR was withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon and the start of this race was rescheduled to allow the betting public to restructure their bets. SEVEN MERLOTS was slow, losing 1 length. MASTEROFTHESTARS (AUS) was slow, losing 2 lengths. Jockey Fortune, the rider of BEAUFORT SEA, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film of the race and reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of a race.
