THEMBA (*K Sakayi) was stubborn loading. Trainer G Rich was advised to re-school. BENDY BULLET (*J Mphanya) and THEMBA (*K Sakayi) over-raced in the early and middle stages. In view of the performance of FRED (A Marcus) (7.10 lengths, betting 3/1) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer B Crawford will be requested to report back on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. At the 450m, MASTER OF DESTINY (S Veale) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the heels of FRED (A Marcus) which shifted out sharply. Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse MASTER OF DESTINY more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Veale, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey Veale struck the horse MASTER OF DESTINY, the distance over which and manner in which Jockey S Veale used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed. Jockey K de Melo appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his ride on SEA VENTURE. In this regard, he explained that this filly had not travelled in the race and potentially did not enjoy the going. Consequently, when he asked SEA VENTURE for a finishing effort, he had felt this filly had nothing to come. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey K de Melo and advised him that this filly's performances would be monitored going forward and thereafter the Board would determine the action, if any, to be taken. BRILLIANT DISGUISE (M Yeni) the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Howells advised (DA).
