The start of the Race was delayed due to the farrier having to refit the right fore shoe on GHURKA CHIEF at the start. READY FOR TAKE OFF and GHURKA CHIEF were slow into stride. BURWAAZ lost one length. ANGELUS BELL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Wiid was questioned with regard to the improved performance of ANGELUS BELL, the winner, compared to this gelding's previous performances. Mr Wiid explained that this gelding's three previous runs had been on the Johannesburg firm winter tracks which were unsuited to ANGELUS BELL. Mr Wiid further explained that today's weaker field and the kinder polytrack surface had accounted for the improvement shown. The Board noted his explanation. GHURKA CHIEF shifted inwards at approximately the 1000 metre mark, resulting in PIROGUE having to check off the heels of GHURKA CHIEF, losing position. An inquiry will be held into this incident. ANGELUS BELL was forced to ease off the heels of THE BIG LEAGUE for a number of strides at approximately the 900 metre mark. THE BIG LEAGUE, hanging out, shifted out approaching the 300 metre mark, carrying ANGELUS BELL and GHURKA CHIEF outwards. Jockey Cele, the rider of THE BIG LEAGUE, appeared before the Board with regard to this incident and was advised to take stronger measures to keep his mounts on a straight course. BURWAAZ switched in at approximately the 150 metre mark off the heels of THE BIG LEAGUE brushing EXCALIVAR. READY FOR TAKE OFF raced with pacifiers. MAACHAAN (AUS) raced with a tongue tie. Vet: INDIAN CONNECTION - Epistaxis, 2nd occurrence and was suspended 180 days suspension. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
