EPIC STORM and PRETTY BALLERINA were slow into stride. ONTENDERHOOKS was stubborn loading, nervous in the stalls and reared at the off. Trainer A C Greeff was advised to re-school this mare prior to her next engagement. At approximately 150m RED HERRING (L Bester) was carried out and had to steady off the heels of ONTENDERHOOKS (X Ndlovu) which shifted out. An objection was lodged by Trainer J P Nel on behalf of the fourth placed horse RED HERRING (L Bester) against the third placed horse ONTENDERHOOKS (X Ndlovu) on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence in this matter the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered that the distance between the horses at the finish line was 1.25 lengths and notwithstanding the incident it appeared that ONTENDERHOOKS always had the measure of RED HERRING and therefore allowed the judges result to stand. Trainer Nel's deposit was refunded. Jockey X Ndlovu signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to RED HERRING in the concluding stages whilst riding ONTENDERHOOKS. A penalty of a suspension of 7 days was imposed. The winner PRETTY BALLERINA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, Stable Employee G Venter acting on behalf of Trainer T J Laing advised (LM). RED HERRING raced in club black colours, Stipes permission. RED HERRING Jockey L Bester carried 0.5 Kg overweight, weighed out at 53.9 Kgs. VET: FOOLS GARDEN not striding out in front.
