EASTERN FRONT was slow losing one length. BALLETOME jumped inwards and brushed the hind quarters of AROUND NOT ACROSS, which resulted in BALLETOME being slow into stride. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine BREATHLESS BERTIE on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report, as this gelding was reported to have changed stride continually in running and had tired quickly in the latter stages. In view of the performance from TOP SPEC, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding and submit a report. Jockey Cheyne, the rider of VARISTAR, reported that his saddle slipped back slightly in running. CARDINAL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: BREATHLESS BERTIE - returned having cast the left fore shoe in running. TOP SPEC - returned not striding out. SHISHANGENI - returned making an abnormal respiratory noise.
