Steady rain fell before and during the running of the 5th Race. The start of the 5th Race was delayed as a result of the farrier having to re-fit the left fore shoe on ALCANINA. MISS STINGRAY and RIPPIT WHIPPET were both slow into stride. REBEL RAIN flyjumped leaving the stalls and thereafter slow into stride. SEEK THE SUMMIT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. MISS STINGRAY was hanging in over the final 300 metres. QUINTELLA was inconvenienced off the heels of ROY'S ROYALTY (AUS) approaching the 300 metre mark. Jockey de Melo and Assistant Trainer Lunn were questioned regarding the running and riding of QUINTELLA. Jockey de Melo explained that his instructions were to race this mare with cover towards the back of the field and to produce her with her run as late as possible. He explained further that this mare resents the crop. Assistant Trainer L Lunn confirmed this explanation and added that he feels the distance of 1400 metres is too far for this mare, and that he will endeavour to race her over distances of up to 1200 metres in her future engagements. These explanations were noted and the future performances of QUINTELLA will be monitored. ROYAL HONEYMOON shifted in near the 150 metre mark, carrying SILVER INSPIRATION inwards and thereafter resulting in SILVER INSPIRATION having to be eased off the heels of ROYAL HONEYMOON and switch out to obtain a clear run. Apprentice Habib, the rider of ROYAL HONEYMOON, signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended for a period of 7 days for a contravention in that, as the rider of ROYAL HONEYMOON, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to horse SILVER INSPIRATION approximately the 150 metre mark. ALCANINA raced fitted with a Cornell collar. Vet: ROY'S ROYALTY (AUS) - coughing. Scratched: HUNGER GAMES - injured left fore. TALES OF MAMBO - no transport.
