Jockey Herholdt (medically indisposed) and Apprentice Storey (medically indisposed) did not ride at today's race meeting. They were replaced on their mounts. Following a burst water pipe at the 1200 metre mark concerns were raised regarding a waterlogged patch in this area. A track inspection was conducted, comprising Stipendiary Stewards, Veterinary Surgeons, the Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Race Day Representative, Jockeys and Trainers. It was established that this waterlogged patch would affect the start of the 1200m races as this area was on the outside of the track directly in front of where the starting stalls would be positioned for the 1200m races. It was therefore decided to change the distance of the 1200m races to 1150m i.e. Races 4, 5, 6 and 7. As the first six meters from the inside running rail had not been affected the Jockeys were of the opinion this would not affect the longer distance races as by this point the field would be racing close enough to the inside running rail to avoid this wet area. The connections of the horses in the affected races were given the opportunity to scratch their runners. The start of this Race was delayed due to NEVADA refusing to load and subsequently being withdrawn by the Starter. The starting stalls certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn and it is suspended for a period of 7 days and until recertified tractable. ROCK ON REBEL and FAIR COLOUR lost 1 length. MINNESOTA cast its right front shoe. FIRST SIGN and DOLPHIN came together shortly after the start. Jockey Zechner reported that he felt something amiss with FAIR COLOUR in running. FIRST SIGN had to ease for a number of strides in the concluding stages, when awkwardly placed on the inside of MINNESOTA, which was carried in by ROCK ON REBEL, which was carried in by DOLPHIN, which shifted in away from the crop and immediately straightened. An objection was lodged by one of the owners of FIRST SIGN, placed fifth, against ROCK ON REBEL being declared the winner, on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After reviewing the patrol film of the incident and in consultation with Trainer Botes, the objection was withdrawn. ROCK ON REBEL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: BOULOGNE - abnormal respiratory noise. FAIR COLOUR - examined post race, no significant findings. Scratched: NEVADA - refused to load.
