Fair start. SOCKEROO (M Winnaar) over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 1400m, ESKISTA (*L Tarentaal), moved to the outside of the field and was eased out of the race. Apprentice Tarentaal reported that this gelding raced awkwardly in the early stages and did not stride out freely. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. MIRACULOUSLY OURS (B Fayd'Herbe) was hanging in from the 300m. Jockey O Noach, the rider of RETRO EFFECT, reported that this gelding took no interest in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Jockeys M Mjoka and S Cele, the riders of EARL OF WARWICK and MELIORA respectively, reported that they felt something amiss with their mounts. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. SUDDEN STAR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Robinson was advised.
