DUBLIN REBEL and MERCHANT PRINCE were slow into stride. PARATUS jumped awkwardly. THE MAQUIS flyjumped. ICY AVALANCHE was bumped out shortly after the start by THE MAQUIS, which jumped awkwardly. Work Rider Tshabane, the rider of THE MAQUIS, became unbalanced and lost his left hand side stirrup iron, which he regained at the 1400m. APSLEY was carried out marginally leaving the 300m by COUNT'S QUEST, which shifted out away from the crop. When questioned regarding his ride on PARATUS, Work Rider Semela explained to the Board that this gelding flyjumped and thereafter he had battled to overcome the wide draw, resulting in him sitting further back than he had been instructed to by his trainer. Thereafter when turning for home he had elected to make his run on the inside of the track as he felt this would best suit his horse. He then had to switch out at approximately the 200m to continue his run but at this stage of the race PARATUS was already tiring. The Stipendiary Board adjourned to review Work Rider Semela's ride in this race. DUBLIN REBEL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. WALKABOUT and APSLEY raced without a tongue tie.
