VAR'S BOY (C Orffer) cast his left front shoe which, after a number of attempts, the farrier was unable to replace. After consultation with the trainer, the right front shoe was removed and VAR'S BOY raced unshod in front. PRINCE ORACY (S Cele) was slow into stride. The start of this race was delayed at the request of the racing operators. There was a further delay while the farrier attended to VAR'S BOY. Jockey B Fayd'Herbe, the rider of NATURALIST, reported that this gelding made a respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey S Cele, the rider of PRINCE ORACY, reported that this gelding did not stride out. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. MOON ROCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer Miss S Reeves-Ashby was advised. (SC) M Byleveld rode +0.5kg (54kgs). VET: NATURALIST - abnormal respiratory noise PRINCE ORACY - nothing obvious detected. Trainer ELP Steyn was requested to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
