The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race. EASY LOVER had to ease for a number of strides at approximately the 1800m when awkwardly placed on the inside of POWER KING, which shifted in. Jockey Randolph was issued with an Admission of Guilt for a contravention in that he, as the rider of POWER KING, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to EASY LOVER when he shifted in at approximately the 1800m. Apprentice Murray reported that he felt something amiss with THE CAPTAIN'S TUNE and eased this gelding out of the race approaching the 800m. Jockey Strydom reported that ULTIMATE DOLLAR made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. Jockey de Melo reported that he felt something amiss with DYNAMIC and did not persevere with his riding in the closing stages. JUDICIAL was carried in marginally by FRENCH NAVY leaving the 200m. Trainer Zackey was questioned regarding the improved performance of JUDICIAL. He explained to the Board that this gelding's preparation for the VICTORY MOON HANDICAP had been interrupted with this horse suffering from a bruised sole. It was his opinion that JUDICIAL had benefitted from that race and this had accounted for the improvement. Mr Zackey's explanation was noted. DEO JUVENTE was carried in approaching the 200m by MASTER SABINA. Thereafter these horses raced in close quarters and brushed in the concluding stages. An Objection was lodged by Jockey Cormack, the rider of the second placed horse, DEO JUVENTE, against the winner, MASTER SABINA, on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Objection Board after giving regard to the evidence put forward by the connections of both horses and reviewing the patrol films of the race, was of the opinion that DEO JUVENTE would not have finished in front of MASTER SABINA and therefore overruled the objection and allowed the Judges result to stand. Jockey Cormack's deposit was refunded. MASTER SABINA, DEO JUVENTE and FRENCH NAVY were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. The Ownership of EASY LOVER should read: Mr & Mrs FJ van Vuuren; and the Colours are: orange, black crossed sashes, orange sleeves and cap. Vet: POWER KING - post race distress. DYNAMIC - not striding out right front. DIESEL JET - coughing. THE CAPTAIN'S TUNE - Epistaxis, 60 day suspension. ULTIMATE DOLLAR - no respiratory noise detected post race.
