Whilst loading PICTURE THE MOMENT (M Byleveld), a problem was detected with the back gate on stall gate 6. The gelding was removed, examined by the course veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. After examination of the back gate, a decision was made not to use stall gate 6. Accordingly, all horses from draw 6 were moved up one stall. Thereafter, the battery between the two banks of stalls did not hold its charge and the decision was made to effect a manual start. These incidents caused a lengthy delay. HAMLET (R Khathi), INNERSPACE (M Winnaar) and GO-AHEAD (O Noach) were slow into stride. There was a delay to the start of this race due to the issues with the starting stalls. MOROCCAN RETREAT (S Cele), which raced green, took an awkward stride at the 550m. Approaching the 450m, MOROCCAN RETREAT (S Cele) was inconvenienced on the inside of FIREALLEY (B Fayd'Herbe) which had switched in for a run and then rolled in and was immediately straightened. As a consequence, ROYAL FLUSH (G Cheyne), which was following, was momentarily held up for a clear run. Approaching the 400m, MOROCCAN RETREAT (S Cele) and WORDSWORTH (*J Solomons) had to steady when tightened for galloping room on the inside of BUMRAH (J Bekker), which was carried in by DESERT ILLUSION (C Orffer).Jockey Orffer appeared before the Board and was advised to take stronger measures and to react sooner to keep his mount on a straight course. RUSSIAN ROCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D Lilley was advised.
