MUTAKAYYEF (NZ), REGAL FORCE and SUMMIT were slow into stride. Jockey Danielson was issued with an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention in that he failed to inform the Stipendiary Board immediately after he became aware that he was unable to fulfil his riding engagement. Jockey van der Merwe, the rider of AFTERBURNER, was charged with a contravention in that he failed to proceed to the parade ring immediately after being instructed to do so by the Clerk of Scales. Jockey van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined. SUMMIT was awkwardly placed on the heels of REGAL FORCE at the 1000m and thereafter raced with restricted galloping room on the outside of REGAL FORCE at the 450m. ANGELUS BELL was awkwardly placed between TREES OF GREEN and ANALYSE THIS at the 200m. REEF OF FORTUNE was bumped in by MAN'S INN, which shifted in to avoid the heels of ANGELUS BELL, which rolled in marginally at the 150m. Apprentice Habib reported that MUTAKAYYEF (NZ) raced with its tongue over the bit. In view of the performance of REEF OF FORTUNE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey Delpech, the rider of TREES OF GREEN, and Apprentice Murray, the rider of STEELWING, reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in running. Jockey van der Merwe reported that AFTERBURNER did not stride out freely in running. ANALYSE THIS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. ILITSHE (AUS) raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: REEF OF FORTUNE and STEELWING - not striding out left front. TREES OF GREEN - abnormal respiratory noise. REGAL FORCE - post race distress. AFTERBURNER - examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
