There was a delay to the start of the 5th Race due to SPANISH FLAMENCO dislodging Jockey Cele en route to the start, cantering through the pull up area before being taken in hand. Checked by the Veterinary Surgeon and declared fit to race. NINEFOLD, FADE TO GREY, DAIQUIRI and SHEZAMATADOR were all slow into stride. LOVE CONQUERS ALL lost 1 length. CAYENNE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer van Wyk was questioned regarding the improved performance of CAYENNE the winner. Mr van Wyk explained to the Board that this mare was coughing in her previous start, as confirmed by the Racecourse Veterinary Surgeon and that in his opinion she is better suited to the shorter distances. Mr van Wyk has been advised to race this mare over similar distances in future and the future performances of CAYENNE will be monitored by the Stipendiary Board. NINEFOLD and SPUTNIK SWEETHEART were hanging in throughout. MISS NIGHTINGALE was hanging in, in the latter stages. In view of the performance of NINEFOLD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Apprentice Godden reported that he felt something amiss with FLYING LUXMI in running. LOVE CONQUERS ALL raced fitted with cheek-pieces. WEST COAST STAR raced without cheek-pieces. The Medical Officer reported that Jockey Forbes sustained a soft tissue injury to left shoulder. Vet: FLYING LUXMI and NINEFOLD - nothing obvious detected.
