VAR BAY flyjumped. A race review was called into the start of this race and the Stipendiary Board established that VAR BAY, in stall gate number 3, reared after the start was effected and therefore took no further action. VAR BAY was declared a runner. Jockey Strydom reported that NATIONAL KEY did not stride out freely in running. TABREEK (AUS) was difficult to settle in the early stages. VAR BAY was awkwardly placed approaching the 100m between MR MULLINER and COCKADE. JOLIE ROGER was hanging in from the 200m. JOLIE ROGER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. TABREEK (AUS) raced equipped with alumite shoes in front, steel behind. Vet: NATIONAL KEY - examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Scratched: BRAD'S SURGE - cast in box.
