ALL DOWN THE LINE, which was fractious in the stalls, was slow losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. Trainer Steyn will be advised that this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. KING OF THE NORTH was restless in the stalls. WESKUS KLONG was slow losing three lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. Trainer Nel will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled before its next engagement. The Stewards reviewed the start regarding WESKUS KLONG in starting stall gate 4 and after reviewing the patrol films established that the gelding had not been impeded and therefore declared WESKUS KLONG to be a runner. When questioned regarding the improved performance from LONDON KNIGHT today, compared to the gelding's previous two races over 1000m at Kenilworth when it finished 13.95 lengths and 9.70 lengths behind the winners, Trainer A E Sands told the Stewards that after its' 1st run the Veterinary Surgeon reported an abnormal respiratory noise. He had gelded the horse and rested it for 7 months, and then fitted a tongue tie for the gelding's 2nd run, which it had not enjoyed. He had shown pace and did not settle. He had removed the tongue tie for today's race. After reviewing the gelding's previous two races, and today's race the Board was satisfied it was ridden and raced on merit in its previous races and noted Trainer Sands' explanation today. Mr Sands was reminded of the Rule pertaining to in and out running and the Board will monitor the future performances of LONDON KNIGHT. LONDON KNIGHT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Scratched: CASTLEWOOD - nasal discharge and coughing.
