Jockey Forbes was examined by the Medical Officer and was declared fit to ride. SPIRIT OF DOVER, DIESEL ENGINE and DANISH WOOD were slow into stride. SPIRIT OF DOVER, placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. SPIRIT OF DOVER shifted out at approximately the 300 metre mark, bumping WESTCHESTER on two occasions, carrying WESTCHESTER outwards. Thereafter SPIRIT OF DOVER continued to shift out from the crop, further carrying WESTCHESTER outwards and making contact with WESTCHESTER at approximately the 75 metre mark. This resulted in WESTCHESTER becoming unbalanced and carrying FANTASY ART (AUS) outwards. An Inquiry will be held into this incident. An Objection was lodged by Assistant Trainer Greyling, acting for Trainer Kotzen, on behalf of the second placed horse WESTCHESTER against the winner, SPIRIT OF DOVER, on the grounds on interference in the latter stages. After considering the evidence and the distance between these two horses at the finish, the Board was of the opinion that, but for the interference, WESTCHESTER would have beaten SPIRIT OF DOVER and therefore upheld the Objection. The Judge's result was amended and the deposit refunded. In view of the performances of SECRET WARNING, DIESEL ENGINE, LIVE CONTROVERSY and DANISH WOOD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Vet: SECRET WARNING, DIESEL ENGINE and DANISH WOOD - nothing obvious detected. LIVE CONTROVERSY - not striding out right fore.
