The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race. NTOMA and SPRING DANCE (AUS) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. BELLA SONATA took an awkward stride at the 1100m. Jockey Yeni reported that BELLA SONATA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. NOOR was awkwardly placed in the concluding stages on the outside of JOAN RANGER, which rolled out marginally. Jockey Fortune reported that he felt something amiss with CRYSTAL GLAMOUR in running. MADAME DUBOIS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: CRYSTAL GLAMOUR - examined post race, no significant findings. BELLA SONATA - no respiratory noise detected post race but returned fatigued. After the running of Race 8, a severe electrical storm moved in over Turffontein Racecourse which led to Race 9 being delayed. After consultation with Phumelela Management and the weather forecast predicting that the thunderstorm was wide spread and showing no signs of dissipating, it was decided to abandon Race 9 at 17h30. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked and their identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed.
