ESPERANZA FIRE, MASKED GIRL and OBLADI OBLADA lost one length. VILLA FLORIANA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer van Wyk was questioned with regard to the improved performance of VILLA FLORIANA, compared to this filly's previous run on the 17 January 2016. He explained that this filly over-raced when fitted with blinkers for the first time in her previous run. For today, VILLA FLORIANA raced without blinkers and this, in his opinion, accounted for the improvement shown. Mr van Wyk undertook to race this filly without blinkers in future. The Board noted his explanation. SALIENT FIND suffered interference at approximately the 300 metre mark and thereafter Jockey Kennedy did not persevere with his ride. In view of this the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine SALIENT FIND. Jockey Forbes reported that ESPERANZA FIRE was not striding out freely in running. DUBLINER switched in off the heels of a tiring ITALIAN MISS (AUS) at approximately the 300 metre mark, resulting in SALIENT FIND becoming cramped and being forced inwards. This in turn resulted in OBLADI OBLADA becoming cramped and having to be eased on the inside running rail. Jockey Nyawo signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention in that, as the rider of DUBLINER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to the horses on his inside at approximately the 300 metre mark. He was suspended for a period of 7 days. LUNA SEA raced green, shifted out away from the crop thereafter ducked inwards shortly before the finish resulting in PIPPIN, EXPRESSA and ESPERANZA FIRE being carried in and becoming severely unbalanced. Vet: SALIENT FIND - speedy cut left hind, coughed. ESPERANZA FIRE - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: LIZZIE'S CHAPEL - swollen left fore knee. Following the running of Race 2, in consultation with the riders and track management, the track condition was changed to good.
