The start of this race was delayed due to CAPE FOULWIND (A Mgudlwa) being removed from the starting stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race, re-loaded and JACALAC (S Randolph) proving difficult to load.
CAPE FOULWIND (A Mgudlwa) was restless in the stalls.
JACALAC (S Randolph) was stubborn and difficult to load. Trainer C Spies was advised to re-school this gelding.
VARVACIOUS (S Moodley) and EPIC SOLILOQUY (C Murray) were restless in the stalls.
COEXIST (W Kennedy) lost one length.
BURNING WINGS (A Marcus) lost two lengths.
In the concluding stages, EPIC SOLILOQUY (C Murray) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of BURNING WINGS (A Marcus) which rolled in.
Jockey G Lerena reported that GLORY AND SUNSHINE (5.80 lengths) made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
Jockey K de Melo reported that STEEPLECHASE (7.60 lengths) took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse RITE OF PASSAGE more than 12 times in entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey R Fourie the Board considered the number of times (15) Jockey R Fourie struck the horse RITE OF PASSAGE, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey R Fourie used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1500 was imposed. Jockey R Fourie's attention was drawn to his recent frequency regarding contraventions of this Rule and was advised that should this trend continue, more severe penalties will be issued.
Jockey A Mgudlwa signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline G, in that whilst riding CAPE FOULWIND, he used his crop when this gelding was out of contention for a place in the closing stages. Accordingly, a penalty of R750 was imposed.
BOLD HORIZON (B Jacobson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Goosen advised (SC).
NOSTRADAMUS raced with alumites (advised 24.07.2020/09h16).
EYES ON TIGER raced equipped with blinkers (advised 29.07.2020/08h10).
COEXIST was ridden by Jockey W Kennedy. Reserve runner (advised 28.07.2020/09h39).
