OCEAN CROSSING was slow into stride. JAMZIG and FERRA ROCHA lost one length. FERRA ROCHA was difficult to load. COMMANDTOCONQUER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Dittmer was questioned with regard to the improved performance of COMMANDTOCONQUER, the winner, compared to this colt's previous performance of the 16 January 2016. Trainer Dittmer could offer no suitable explanation and her attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to in and out running of horses. COMMANDTOCONQUER was hanging out badly over the final 200 metres, despite Apprentice Ngwane's attempts to maintain a straight course, carried LEONARD outwards at approximately the 100 metre mark and thereafter shortly before the finish. Apprentice Mxothwa signed an Admission of Guilt for a Warning for a contravention in that, as the rider of ROY'S AMAZING ASH, he rode this gelding in an unprofessional manner by accidentally dropping his crop near the 350 metre mark. ROYAL CHAMPION was pulling hard in the early and middle stages, difficult to restrain. In view of the performances of FERRA ROCHA and TERRA INCOGNITA, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. GEORGIE BOY baulked over the final 200 metres. PUTCHINI returned post race having cast the left fore shoe. Vet: GEORGIE BOY - coughing. FERRA ROCHA - nothing obvious detected. TERRA INCOGNITA - not striding out left fore.
