THIS IS SPARTA cast the left fore shoe on the way to the start, which the farrier replaced causing a delay. VILAKAZI was fractious loading, reared, dislodged the rider and had to be hooded. Trainer Crawford will be advised that this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn. MR WISE GUY broke through the front gate, dislodged the rider, bolted back to the parade ring, and was subsequently withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon. Trainer Ramsden will be advised to have the gelding re-schooled before its next engagement. The field was taken out of the starting stalls until MR WISE GUY had been caught and secured. THIS IS SPARTA jumped awkwardly losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. READY TO ATTACK (AUS) and LORD MARSHAL were tightened for galloping room approaching the bend. EIGHTH WONDER was momentarily inconvenienced on the heels of WHISKY BARON, which switched out to obtain a clear run at the 450m. In view of the performances from HARD DAY'S NIGHT, EIGHTH WONDER, SEARCH PARTY, STREAK OF SILVER and LORD MARSHAL, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses on their return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. MARINARESCO and WHISKY BARON (AUS) were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: HARD DAY'S NIGHT - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. EIGHTH WONDER - returned blowing, and a nasal discharge. SEARCH PARTY - returned not striding out. STREAK OF SILVER - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. LORD MARSHAL - returned cut on the right fore. Scratched: MR WISE GUY - bolted the course and was withdrawn.
