DOLLAR BRAND (S Cele), which was restless in the stalls, jumped inwards and made contact with PAPER TRAIL (M Byleveld). LETS BOOGIE BABY (S Mbhele) and TARA ITI (C Orffer) jumped slow, losing one length. SOMERSET MAUGHAM (G van Niekerk) was slow into stride. Approaching the 1000m, TURN IT UP HARVEY (A Domeyer) steadied off the heels of SOMERSET MAUGHAM (G van Niekerk) and then was ridden forward to secure a handy position. At the 400m, LAVITA BLEU (G Behr) was carried in by SOMERSET MAUGHAM (G van Niekerk) which rolled in and was immediately straightened. Jockey G Van Niekerk reported that this colt over raced in the early stages. In view of the performance of SOMERSET MAUGHAM (Betting: 8/10 : Distance 8.65) the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey van Niekerk was questioned regarding his riding of this colt from the 300m. The Stewards have adjourned to consider his evidence and to interview trainer SJ Snaith. FORT AGOPIAN (O Noach) and LAVITA BLEU (G Behr) brushed at the 300m. Jockey A Domeyer, the rider of TURN IT UP HARVEY, reported that this gelding took no interest in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine. Jockeys S Cele, M Byleveld and G Cheyne, the riders of DOLLAR BRAND, PAPER TRAIL and BLACK DUKE respectively, reported that their mounts did not act in the heavy going. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine these horses. ZO LUCKY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer W Mynhardt was advised.
