HIEMS VENIT (G Behr) was slow, losing three lengths.
The Stewards reviewed the start of this race with regards to HIEMS VENIT (G Behr) in stall gate 9 and established that the front gate had failed to open on terms. Acting in terms of Rule 61.5.10.1, the Stewards declared HIEMS VENIT (G Behr) a non-runner.
At the 1100m JUST JOYCE (O Noach) rolled in, clipped the heels of BARN DANCE (*J Solomons) and stumbled.
BILLIE JEAN (D Ashby), which raced green, shifted in sharply away from the crop approaching the 200m and again in the latter stages.
MADAM SEVILLE (C Orffer), GOLIGHTLY (M Byleveld) and TRUTHBETOLD (B Fayd'Herbe) raced awkwardly on the middle part of the bend and into the straight, thereafter their respective riders reported that their mounts did not act in the heavy underfoot conditions and did not persevere with their riding in the straight.
The saddle on BRIGHT EYED GIRL (*X Jacobs), which pulled hard and was difficult to restrain in the early stages, slipped forward from the 800m, placing the rider at a disadvantage. This was verified by the course veterinary surgeon.
IN A HUFF, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer W Maynhardt was advised. (SC)
AFFIRMATION, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer M Arnold was advised. (NS)
Apprentice L Tarentaal rode CATCHING STARS (declared 09h36 on 20200811)
AFFIRMATION raced with alumites (declared 08h48 on 20200808)
TRUTHBETOLD raced with a tongue-tie (declared 07h18 on 20200811)
B Fayd'Herbe rode +0.5 (57.8kgs).
VET:
GOLIGHTLY - overreach left front
KAYC AL - cast right front shoe
TRUTHBETOLD - nothing obvious detected.
After the running of Race 4, a protest was lodged by the riders' representatives on the grounds of unsafe track conditions. A protest panel heard evidence from the jockey's representatives, Jockeys M Byleveld and B Fayd'Herbe, and the trainers' representatives, Mr VH Marshall and G W Ennion, in the presence of the track manager, Mr Dean Diedericks. The jockeys were unanimous in that the bend track was inconsistent and affected the action of their respective mounts. All parties, having heard the evidence of the riders and viewing the video of the areas concerned, were unanimous in their decision that the track condition was unsafe to continue racing and the remainder of the meeting was abandoned.
