NURSE HARRIET, CRYSTHAL and THEMLA were slow into stride. Jockey Khathi reported that SHIRA refused to raise a gallop. Jockey Zackey reported that ONE LOVE (BRZ) made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. CRYSTHAL faltered on the first turn and in the home straight. LIMPOPO RIVER was hanging inwards approaching the 400 metre mark, rolled in slightly, which resulted in CLIFTON SANDS becoming cramped for galloping room for a stride. Jockey van Niekerk appeared before the Board and was shown the patrol film of this incident and was advised to make more of an effort to keep his mount on a straight course in future. LA MYST was hanging outwards over the final 400 metres. THEMLA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee du Plessis was questioned regarding the improved performance of THEMLA compared to her previous run on the 11/03/2016. Stable Employee du Plessis explained that THEMLA was fitted with a tongue tie for the first time today and this could have accounted for this filly's improved performance. Stable Employee du Plessis was advised to race this filly equipped in the same manner in future. Jockey van Niekerk signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention, read with Guideline C on the use of the crop, in that he struck the horse LIMPOPO RIVER more than three times on consecutive strides. Vet: SHIRA and CRYSTHAL - checked post race, nothing obvious detected. ONE LOVE (BRZ) - not striding out.
