The start of this Race was delayed due to the previous Race delays. LOOKAMEE became restless shortly before the start was effected. ICHKERIA and SPICE IS NICE were slow into stride. POP STAR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. ICY SPIRIT and ICHKERIA made contact shortly after the start, resulting in ICHKERIA losing position. POP STAR shifted out away from the crop approaching the 200 metre mark, resulting in a tiring DREAM BABE being carried out slightly and having to be steadied. Simultaneously SOLDIER'S BRIDE and PRINCESS IDA both shifted in, resulting in SOLDIER'S BRIDE having to be eased off the heels of POP STAR, and as a result BACK IN TOWN having to be eased momentarily and CHERRY HILL becoming cramped for galloping room. A race review was called into this incident by Jockey Forbes, the rider of SOLDIER'S BRIDE. After viewing the patrol video from the various angles, no further action was taken. BACK IN TOWN was hanging in, in the straight. In view of the performance of SPICE IS NICE, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Jockey Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention, in that as the rider of ICHKERIA, he used his crop in an unnecessary manner by striking this gelding with excessive frequency in the latter stages. Vet: SCARLETTE SUMMER - coughing. SPICE IS NICE - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: MPHUMI - not eating up.
