Steady rain fell prior to and during the running of this race. THIS IS SPARTA jumped awkwardly losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. BLUE DOOR jumped awkwardly losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. PRINCE OF EDEN cast the right fore shoe in the saddling area, which the farrier replaced, which caused the gelding to be late going down to the start. Jockey Orffer, the rider of THIS IS SPARTA, accidentally dropped his crop at about the 150m. ELYSIAN PARK and GLENTON pulled hard in the early stages and refused to settle. In view of the performances from TIN SOLDIER and ELYSIAN PARK, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings on their return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. PRINCE OF EDEN was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: TIN SOLDIER and ELYSIAN PARK - inspected post race and no obvious abnormalities were detected. The course farrier on duty did not report there to be anything amiss with the shoes fitted to the horses that raced at today's race meeting. The passports of all the runners that raced at today's race meeting were checked, identities, AHS and Equine Influenza vaccinations confirmed, as per normal procedure. Several Jockeys and Apprentices were selected for the taking of breathalyser tests and urine samples for analysis. After the running of this race the Jockeys lodged a protest in that they were concerned with the deteriorating track conditions and poor visibility. A Panel was formed, consisting of two Jockeys, two Trainers, a Veterinary Surgeon, the Race Meeting Representative, the Track Manager and Stipendiary Stewards, which heard evidence and it was the majority opinion that although the visibility was poor Race 7 would go ahead. Further heavy rain then fell before the horses were saddled and a further protest was lodged. The Panel, after considering the opinions of all concerned and taking into account the forecast of further heavy rain, a unanimous decision to abandon races 7 & 8 was made.
