Jockey Lembethe was examined by the Medical Officer prior to Race 1 and was declared fit to ride. The start of this Race was delayed due to KIMBERLEY CLUB (AUS) having to be re-saddled at the start. There was a further delay due to Apprentice de Gouveia, the rider of PLAY THE LAFF (AUS), being injured at the start and a replacement rider having to be weighed out and transported to the start. Thereafter the Race was further delayed due to the ambulance having to transport the injured Apprentice to the first aid room and return to the start. ICE EMPEROR was difficult to load. COSSACK GUARD, ICE EMPEROR and PLAY THE LAFF (AUS) lost one length. WHOSHOTTHECHEF lost three lengths. AFRICA RISING was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. COSSACK GUARD, DANCER IN THE DARK, ICE EMPEROR, KINSHASA, LIFE IS GOOD, REPRIEVE and SIR EDMUND raced green. KIMBERLEY CLUB (AUS) was hanging in throughout. In view of the performance of KIMBERLEY CLUB (AUS), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. In view of the Starter's report concerning ICE EMPEROR, this colt's starting stall certificate is withdrawn until re-passed tractable with a companion. The ownership of PLAY THE LAFF (AUS) should read: Messrs D Q Howes, S W Phillips & Green Street Bloodstock Pty Ltd; and the Colours are: royal blue and white quartered, red sleeves and collar, white cap, royal blue star and peak. The Medical Officer reported that Apprentice de Gouveia was examined after being injured at the start. He was found to have sustained a back injury and unable to continue riding. Vet: KIMBERLEY CLUB (AUS) - nothing obvious detected. Scratched: JUST ANOTHER OZZIE - deceased.
