MAMBO, SKOPELOS and AMAZING MAGESH were slow into stride. INDIAN BAY lost two lengths. VIENTO was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Roberts was questioned with regard to the improved performance of VIENTO compared to this gelding's previous performances. Trainer Roberts could not offer any other explanation for the improvement shown today other than the extremely weak calibre of today's field. Mr Robert's attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to in and out running. ROY'S DISPREN was hanging out badly in the straight. DALE HOUSE was hanging out over the final 400 metres. VIENTO was switched in to obtain a clear run resulting in ROY'S DISPREN being carried inwards at approximately the 500 metres. VIENTO was hanging out in the straight. SKOPELOS and FATHEAD BROWNIE were pulling hard in the early stages, difficult to restrain. Jockey Maphumulo reported that VESTED INTEREST took no interest in running. Jockey van der Merwe reported that AMAZING MAGESH choked up in running. Jockey Lembethe signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined for a contravention, in that as the rider of VIENTO, he used his crop in an unnecessary manner by striking this gelding with excessive frequency in the straight.
